This brief tutorial shows  how to enable or disable the Microsoft Edge browser display mode in Windows 10.

Microsoft plans to roll out a display mode feature with its Edge browser starting version 91. As of now, this feature is not available in the current stale version of Edge.

However, when Edge is updated to the latest version that is generally available, you will see the Display Mode feature immediately after the update. When it is released, the steps below show you how to enable it, when to disable it and how to disable it when enabled.

This mode helps optimize your browser’s performance by saving battery and reducing resource usage (memory, CPU). Depending on your device specifications and personal browser habits, performance may improve. Description:

  • Puts the background tab to sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity (if the sleep tab is on). When you are not in display mode, the timer will revert to its previous selection.
  • While we do our best to minimize the impact on your experience, the reason for the display mode may be:
    • Video Less Smooth
    • Animation to slow down when you are not interacting with the browser

To enable edge display mode, follow the steps below:

There are many places where you will find the Edge home folder. These are sometimes based on the user’s profile and how Edge was installed.

The edge browser’s icon is usually stored in the bottom path for each user on the system.
