This brief tutorial shows  how to enable or disable the Microsoft Edge browser display mode in Windows 10.

Microsoft plans to roll out a display mode feature with its Edge browser starting version 91. As of now, this feature is not available in the current stale version of Edge.

However, when Edge is updated to the latest version that is generally available, you will see the Display Mode feature immediately after the update. When it is released, the steps below show you how to enable it, when to disable it and how to disable it when enabled.

This mode helps optimize your browser’s performance by saving battery and reducing resource usage (memory, CPU). Depending on your device specifications and personal browser habits, performance may improve. Description:

  • Puts the background tab to sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity (if the sleep tab is on). When you are not in display mode, the timer will revert to its previous selection.
  • While we do our best to minimize the impact on your experience, the reason for the display mode may be:
    • Video Less Smooth
    • Animation to slow down when you are not interacting with the browser

 

To enable edge display mode, follow the steps below:

Enable edge display mode

To enable, right-click the Edge icon, either from the Tasks menu or from your desktop.

There are many places where you will find the Edge home folder. These are sometimes based on the user’s profile and how Edge was installed.

The edge browser’s icon is usually stored in the bottom path for each user on the system.

Highlighted area User name In the path above the name of the user account on the system.

On some systems, you may also find an Edge Browser icon in the path below:

On other systems, you can find the Edge browser icon in the space below:

Wherever you find your edge icon, right click and select it a quality As shown in the image below:

When the Properties pane opens, add the command option at the end of the line, followed by a space, in the target area.

--enable-features=msPerformanceModeToggle

The full target command would look like this:

"C:UsersRichardAppDataLocalMicrosoftEdge SxSApplicationmsedge.exe" --enable-features=msPerformanceModeToggle

Applicable And save your change.

After saving your changes, open Edge and open its Settings page. To go to its settings page, click on three horizontal dots ( ) At the top right corner.

Then press system From left panel, under “Optimize performance”Section, use the drop-down menu to select always on For performance mode.

Disable display mode

To disable the display mode, simply reverse the steps above. Remove and save the command option from the edge command target area.

You can disable the browser, but suppress the command target field option.
